EVENTS
Dear Skagit Democrats,
I hope you all enjoyed a day of celebrating our independence in spite of the weather Sunday. If the Logger Rodeo Grande Parade in Sedro-Woolley is any indication, the political campaigns are highly energized in spite of the weather. It appears that we are in for some hard fought races in the coming weeks. We have lots of work to do before the Aug. 17th - Primary ballots are mailed out in a little less than four weeks now.

CANDIDATE NEWS
1. News from the Kris Lytton Campaign.
July 1, 2010
Educators Back Kristine Lytton
Olympia, Wash. (July 1, 2010): Democrat Kristine Lytton is gaining momentum in her race to fill the seat vacated by retiring Rep. David Quall. In the past week Lytton, the current Anacortes School Board President, has earned the sole endorsements of both the Public School Employees of Washington (SIEU 1948) and the Washington Education Association. These recent endorsements add to an ever-growing list of supporters, including the American Federation of Teachers (ALF-CIO), the League of Education Voters PAC and Stand for Children, who appreciate Lytton’s focus on education and community. Lytton “has managed to combine her passion for education with her ability to work with others to get things done,” said City of Anacortes Mayor Dean Maxwell, “I expect good things from her in Olympia.”Lytton has long been a champion of public education. “Our decision,” said the American Federation of Teachers Washington, “was based… on the work that done as an advocate for quality education and for working families in our state.” During her time on the school board, Lytton has gained a reputation as a tough negotiator who takes a real world approach to difficult issues. Ensuring adequate funding for schools and a commitment to preparing Washington students for the global economy are among Lytton’s top legislative priorities.
Lytton’s growing list of endorsements also includes the Washington National Organization for Women (NOW), the National Women’s Political Caucus of Washington, United Staff Nurses Union (UFCW 141), and the Washington Conservation Voters. On Saturday, July 3, Kristine Lytton will be visiting the Bellingham Farmers Market and on Sunday she will be in Anacortes for the Fourth of July Parade. It has been an exciting month!
Kris has a complete sweep of the educator endorsements in Washington. The Public School Employees of Washington (SEIU Local 1948) and the Washington Education Association announced their endorsement of Kris’ campaign this past week. And over the past few months, Kris has earned the endorsements of the American Federation of Teachers Washington, the League of Education Voters PAC, the Washington Public Employees Association, and Stand for Children. “Our decision,” said the American Federation of Teachers, “was based…on the work that done as an advocate for quality education and for working families in our state.”
Thousands of teachers, librarians, school counselors and other school employees across the state are represented by these endorsements, and we are immensely grateful for their support. Kris has been a long-time champion of Washington’s public schools, serving on the Anacortes School Board, the Anacortes Schools Foundation, the Senior College Board and the PTA. Ensuring adequate funding for schools, and a commitment to preparing Washington students for the global economy, are among Kris’ top legislative priorities.Kris’ list of endorsements is extensive and growing. The Washington National Organization for Women (NOW), the National Women’s Political Caucus of Washington, NARAL Pro-Choice Washington PAC, the United Staff Nurses Union (UFCW 141), the Washington Conservation Voters and dozens of community leaders in Anacortes, Bellingham, and Burlington have all endorsed Kris has the best candidate to represent the 40th District in Olympia.
