MoveOn Skagit Meeting
Sunday, May 21, at 3:00 at the Anacortes Senior Center.
The Steering Committee has developed a “template” for future meetings, that focuses on education and a follow-up action on a specific issue each meeting. The overall goal is to continue to push our Members of Congress (MoCs)–particularly Rep. Larsen–to take more progressive stances. This month they are focusing on Health Care. Future meetings will focus on Immigration, Environmental Issues, Civil/Human Rights. Of course, if a crisis arises where action is specifically needed, they’ll focus on that.
On Sunday, they’ll have an “information/education” session, to provide updates on what’s happening in Congress regarding health care—including Bernie’s new bill–followed up by a letter writing session. They’ll have paper, envelopes addressed to Rick Larsen, and stamps, as well as sample letters for you to use. The letters will be addressed to his Everett office, so that they don’t get stalled in DC, but will be dumped on his desk at the local office. Larsen’s local community liaison,Tom Boucher, has been invited, and has said he’ll try to attend.
Mark Lundsten has produced a film on health care, which can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AQX9pZ0hv0&feature=youtu.be.
Lyndon Greene is working on our next Anacortes “resist” activity—a significant presence in the July 4 parade. He’ll have more information to share on Sunday.
In addition, we’ll have a brief coaching session on effective strategies for talking to MoCs on the phone/leaving messages, etc.
Hope to see you all on Sunday.
