Skagit County Democratic Party

Welcome to the Skagit County Democratic Party Election 2010 page!

Following (in Alphabetical Order) Are Press Releases from Three Democratic Candidates for Representative Quall's Seat in the State Legislature.

From the Tom Boucher Campaign:

Fellow Democrats,

Today I have announced that I will run for 40th District seat being vacated by Representative Dave Quall.

I decided to run after talking with hundreds of people in the northwest about the issues they are facing. Speaking with folks and listening to their concerns at town halls, the number one issue is JOBS. People in the northwest are concerned because their longtime neighbor is going to lose their home, or a family member, who because the company they worked at for 30 years shut down, is now looking for a job for the first time in this great recession. We need to make jobs in Washington the top priority.

I am currently a member of Congressman Rick Larsen's district staff and former Legislative Assistant to State Representative Jeff Morris. I have served as the 40th District Democrats Campaign Committee Chair and also served a term as the 40th District Democrats Vice-Chair. I have run and consulted on a number of local democratic races for the party.

Aside from party, I owned and operated my own restaurant in downtown Mount Vernon, served as co-chair of the Jefferson Elementary Parent group with my wife, was Executive Director of the Skagit Valley Wine Association, served on the Board of Youthnet and the last two years as the board president (Youthnet is a non-profit organization that serves at risk youth in Skagit, Whatcom, San Juan, Island and Snohomish County).

I have lived in Mount Vernon with my family for over 24 years. Both my daughters attend Mount Vernon High School and my wife Lesha is a nurse at Skagit Valley Hospital. I graduated from Mount Vernon High School, Skagit Valley College and Western Washington University with a degree in Political Science and a degree in Communications.

I look forward to getting out on the campaign trail and talking with each of you about the issues that are of concern to you.

Kris Lytton is running to replace Dave Quall in the 40th state House district.

Kris Lytton, who is currently President of the Anacortes School Board, has announced
she is running to replace Dave Quall (D-Mount Vernon), who announced he will not seek another term.

“I am committed to ensuring that our children have an opportunity for a future that is better than ours,” said Lytton, who has long made education a priority during her four year tenure on the School Board. “

“I expect my primary legislative focus will be ensuring that Washington State is preparing our next generation for a world where they will be able to compete and be leaders in the global society. I feel that if our nation is going to compete in the global economy, one in which jobs are kept in America, we must prepare the next generation to be skilled, creative and have the entrepreneurial spirit to once again ensure that the U.S. is a leader in innovation and prosperity.

I also have interest in working on the Washington State budget, environmental issues with special interest in green energy and clean water.

I look forward to representing the constituents of the 40th District in the House of Representatives.”

Lytton has also served on:
• Anacortes Schools Foundation Board, which raises funds for scholarships for
Anacortes students. Kris is vice-president.
• Anacortes Museum Foundation Board, which raises funds for the Anacortes Museum.
• Anacortes Senior College Board, which holds classes for seniors in Anacortes.
• Anacortes/San Juan Island Red Cross Board. Served on the board from 2008-2009.
• Anacortes PTAs, where Kris served as President and Legislative Chair since 1996.

Kris attended Southern Illinois University, the University of Missouri and Lewis & Clark Community College in Godfrey, Ill.

Kris has lived in Anacortes for 15 years and has been married to Mike Lytton for 21 years. They have two children, one in high school; the other at the University of Washington.

Tom Pasma Announces Intent to Run for 40th LD State House

Longtime Community Rancher, Auctioneer, and Democrat Wants to Bring History of Cooperation and Listening to the State Legislature

Bow, WA—Tom Pasma announced his bid for the state legislature at Double S Quarter Horses, Pasma's ranch in Bow that he runs with his wife Sue Sultze, after hearing that longtime incumbent Dave Quall wasn't going to seek reelection.

“I'm not 100% happy with the way either party is doing business right now. I think that politicians need to return to their roots and make sure they represent the people first. As an auctioneer, Tom works with agricultural groups doing livestock auctions and with many non-profit and charity groups raising funds to support community, arts, and philanthropic causes. He has done many auctions for people facing huge medical bills not covered by their insurance. He does 25-30 charity auctions a year for many community groups including: the Skagit Land Trust, Mount Vernon Rotary, Skagit Valley College, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Snohomish County, the Camp Fire Girls, and the American Quarter Horse Foundation.
