LATEST NEWS

At the last meeting of the Washington State Central Committee in Walla Walla, they voted to change the manner of nominating our Congressional District Representatives to Congress. The nominations will now be done by the State Central Committee rather than by the Congressional Districts that they represent.

The State Central Committee also voted to eliminate the 2010 precinct caucuses. However when this change was found to be in violation of the State Charter they proposed making the necessary changes to the State Charter.

At the next meeting of the State Central Committee on January 29th and 30th, there will be three votes that will make major changes in how our Democratic Party operates in this state: nominating Congressional District Representatives at State Central Committee Meetings rather than in the Congressional Districts, changing the State Charter to allow canceling precinct caucuses, and eliminating precinct caucuses this year.

If any of these changes concern you, please contact your Precinct Committee Officer so that he/she will be able to give feedback to our State Committeeman and State Committeewoman before they attend the next State Central Committee Meeting at the end of this month.

UPCOMING EVENTS and ANNOUNCEMENTS

1. Dollar Movie Night, Friday, Jan. 8, 7 p.m., Party Headquarters, Mount Vernon
The DVD for January 8th will be Crips and Bloods Made in America.

"A cluster of neighborhoods lies in the heart of Southern California , Los Angeles where streets and boulevards form a grid between concrete ribbons of freeways. Surrounded by the California Dream, this region has a legacy. Nearly a quarter of its young men will end up in prison. Many others will end up dead. These neighborhoods in south Los Angeles are home to two of America's most infamous gangs, the Crips and the Bloods.

On these streets over the past 30 years, more than 15,000 people have been murdered in an ongoing cycle of gang violence that continues unabated. It was here, just a few miles from the gated communities and sprawling mansions of Beverly Hills , where America's most bloody and costly outbreaks of civil unrest erupted not once but twice. This chilling PBS documentary was an official selection at the Sundance Film Festival and four other international film festivals. Will Reichert from the Skagit County Sheriffs Office will be among those participating in the post film discussion.
